10 Things to Consider When Buying Personalized Gifts
1. Plan ahead
This is the most important thing to keep in mind! The majority of gifts you buy will not already be personalized (how could they be?!) so you need to budget for enough time to purchase the gift and to have time to have it personalized.
If you are ordering it online, make sure you know how many days it will take for the item to arrive.
Check with whoever is personalizing the gift how long it will take for them to complete the job.
Add a buffer of at least a few days in case there are any delays!
2. Keep it age-appropriate
And by appropriate, we mean relevant. Does someone who is retiring need a nice set of engraved pens? Probably not, unless they are getting into writing!
Keep in mind the age of the person you are shopping for as well as their interests so that you get an item that they are sure to enjoy and get good use out of.
3. Do your research
It’s true, getting the right thing takes more time than getting a ‘regular’ product.
Part of that involves research to ensure the person you are shopping for doesn’t already have what you are thinking of getting them.
This may also mean finding great images they love to have printed - don’t just find a random image on their social media and have it printed. Take some more time!
4. Involve family and friends
One of the best tips for getting the right thing is to involve family and friends.
They are sure to know what someone would love and also have access to things like pictures that you might need.

Having a person’s name or a date engraved on something? Check your work! The only bad choice is the one that involves a typo.
Check, double-check, and triple-check whatever you are having engraved, painted, or printed!

There are plenty of ‘standard’ personalized gifts out there - like a personalized tie for a man or a charm bracelet for a woman, but get creative and think about the person you are shopping for and what they may really enjoy having personalized.
Perhaps a phone case, picture frame, or even a recipe book filled with their favorite recipes!

Most people think of putting a person’s name or initials on something, but also consider dates or even significant locations.
A great wedding gift, for example, could include the couple’s anniversary date, or the location where they first met or where they got married.

Why should you be confident? Because more than likely once you have an item personalized, you can’t return it!
Make sure you are totally confident in your item selection before making the final step of having it personalized.

Finally, relax! Taking the time to find something sweet and unique and having it personalized is sure to make the person you are shopping for so happy.
Even if they already have what you bought them, the fact that you took the time to make it for them will be greatly appreciated.
