As arguably, one of the most popular pets in the world, more and more people are beginning to dip their toes into the world of being a cat owner. Although there may be studies that suggest cats aren’t the best companions, especially when compared to dogs, they could be the perfect pets for your lifestyle, especially if you’ve never quite been a dog person.
If you’re a cat owner or someone who finds that they can relate to people who own cats, you’ll surely understand this list of unique things that nearly any cat lover will get.
1. Your Phone is Filled with Cats
This is especially true if you own one because just one pose from your feline friend isn’t enough as the next one is cuter than the first and the one after that is even cuter! You seemingly get lost in an array of photos, capturing pictures of your pet getting into peculiar situations or even making the funniest faces that you never knew they made before.
Also, don’t be surprised if your entire social media page is filled with pictures of your cat, because, who doesn’t love the idea of showing off their pet-child to the entire internet?
2. Nighttime Cuddles = Awesome!
As we all know, there are plenty of cat breeds that are more likely to stay away from human contact than others and when you get those nighttime cuddles, it makes every single piece of cat hair in your nose and mouth worth it.
Cuddling with cats is so much better than cuddling with dogs as you don’t have to worry about something bigger than you stealing the covers or breathing directly on your face. Your cat seemingly curls up into a little ball either right beside your head or your chest and simply falls asleep, their purring helping to lull you into your dreams.
3. Getting Dressed is Tough
If there’s one thing that can be said about cats, it’s that they have a phenomenal taste for fashion, especially when you’re trying to get ready in a hurry first thing in the morning. In fact, don’t be surprised if you have to call into work a few minutes late because you couldn’t get your cat off your clothes.
You take the time to put out the perfect outfit ranging from pants to a top, only to find that your furry friend has taken up residence on top of your neatly folded clothing, peering at you through their eyes, daring you to move them. If you’re able to get them off your clothes, and that’s a big if, you’ll have to spend several minutes with a lint brush getting all of their hair out of the material of your clothing.
4. Working at Home? No Way!
This is especially true if you have a pet cat that loves your attention and loves to play, particularly if they’re a kitten. Any type of sit down work that you intended on getting done is most certainly never going to happen as your cat is going to be intrigued by absolutely everything you have your hands on. Typing up an important work email? Get prepared to use spell check to ensure your cat’s paws didn’t force you to press a few extra letters here and there. Watching Netflix on your laptop? Oh well, there’s no point anyway as you’re not going to be able to see the screen over your cat curled up on your keyboard.
Similar to children, the best time to get your work done is when your cat is asleep or outside of the room, otherwise you’ll quickly become the world’s most renowned procrastinator.
5. Wearing Black is a Joke, Right?
If you’re the type of person that enjoys creating a wardrobe filled with dark and moody colors, it’s time to reevaluate your life choices, especially if you have a light-haired cat. The idea of wearing black as a cat owner is sincerely a pipe dream as you’re going to spend more time getting all of the pet hair out of your clothes than you would spend wearing them.
However, you could always become one of those proud cat owners that don’t care too much about the pet hair stuck to their leggings and sweaters. However, there’s nothing more annoying (or embarrassing) than seeing chunks of pet hair floating in the air when you’re out on a date or hanging out with a friend at their house and there are no pets around.
6. Who Needs Toys?
Another thing that you’re going to learn very quickly when you first get a kitten is that you’re going to want to buy them a lot of different toys to keep them entertained, but no toys are necessary. This is mostly because your cats (again, like children) are quite capable of taking care of themselves when it comes to the amusement department. Whether they’re entertained by their shadow on the wall or if they prefer to mess around with a dirty sock that you left in the corner of your bedroom, you can guarantee they won’t have any need for traditional cat toys.
Above all else, your cat has you. There’s nothing more entertaining than trying to climb up your leg, jumping on your shoulder to play with your topknot, or even swatting at your arm as you’re trying to cook dinner or change the channel on TV. The good part is, you have the ability to save a lot of money when it comes to toys, but the bad part is you might never be able to get anything accomplished.
7. Cat Leashes are Cool, in Theory
You’ve undoubtedly had that moment where you thought to yourself, I could totally get my cat on a leash and take it for walks! Only to find that after you invest the time and money into finding the perfect leash, your cat is anything but excited and will refuse to do anything you tell it to. Although this can be frustrating, it’s important to remember that’s why you chose a cat in the first place; they have a striking personality that accentuates independence and spunk, quite like yourself.
