Gifts for Tween Girls
10 Things to Consider When Buying a Gifts for a Tween Girls
In search of the perfect gift for a tween-aged girl? Be sure to keep these 10 things in mind while you shop, they’ll help guide you towards the right gift!
1. Stay age-appropriate
This one is hard, but something to keep in mind! As a tween you aren’t an adult, not a child, you really are right in between. Make sure you get her something that isn’t too young or too old - it sounds obvious, but it is an easy mistake to make!
Spend a little extra time to make sure you are getting something she will really enjoy - check the age range on the item or do some research to confirm. Know someone else who has a tween? Ask for their advice!
2. Be careful with technology
It is inevitable that technology will be part of her life (and likely already is). While that is okay, you don’t want her developing bad habits at this young of an age!
Consider staying away from tech gifts and encourage her to enjoy other things in life. Especially if you aren’t her parent, you don’t want to give her something that they may not want her to have yet (such as a smartphone or laptop).
3. Encourage activity
Like we’ve mentioned, technology dominates our lives and that includes children as well. You can help to break that cycle! Consider getting her something that encourages physical activity - say a soccer ball or bicycle. She is still young enough to play outside- so why not encourage her to do so? And if possible, why not join in with her?
4. Ask when it comes to makeup
If you aren’t her parent, make sure you ask first if you can get her something like makeup. Most parents have a strong opinion on what age they want their daughter to start using makeup.
For some, the tween age is fine, but for others, they may want to wait until she is older. Respect their wishes and hold off if they are not okay with it. It may not seem like a big deal, but it can be! Better safe than sorry!
5. Accessorize
One thing that is always a safe gift idea is accessories! This could be jewelry, a new purse, or hair accessories. You can never have too large of a collection, just ask any girl and she will agree! A fun accessory is a great gift for a tween girl that she will love adding into her wardrobe.
6. Games are still great
Truthfully, you are never too old to play games, but that is especially true for tweenagers! We recommend getting a game that involves several players so that you are encouraging her to connect with her friends and family- without technology! There are plenty of fun multiplayer games to choose from that are created for tweens, but older family can still join in and enjoy also!
7. Clothing can be great
Like accessories, clothing can also make for a great gift, just make sure you get the right size! The last thing you want to do is accidentally make her feel bad so be sure you know for sure what to get, otherwise we recommend getting something else!
Alternatively, you could also offer to take her shopping so that she can pick out something that she likes. She gets a great gift, and you can enjoy bonding with her- it’s a win-win!
8. Encourage a hobby
Does she like to play an instrument? Or is there a certain sport she enjoys? Help encourage her to stick with her hobby by getting her a related gift to it. Encourage her to keep going and that practice will make her better- the positive reinforcement can really help her get excited and keep at it!
9. Go ahead and ask
When in doubt, ask her what she wants as a gift! There is nothing wrong with asking so that you have a little guidance. It can be hard to know exactly what a tween-aged girl wants, especially if you haven’t been that age in a while. Asking some questions can lead you towards a perfect gift for a tween girl you know she’ll love.
10. Choose the experience
Finally, consider giving the gift of an experience that you can possibly enjoy with her, or that she can enjoy with her friends. Maybe there is a concert coming up she wants to go to or a sporting event she would enjoy.
Or, simply take her out and treat her to something fun- lunch, a movie, a pedicure, you can’t go wrong with those!
